Industrial distance meter for fixed mounting with SPS

The DLS distance meter is used to measure distances accurately in the industrial sector. With this distance meter, you can measure, for example, the filling of containers, the position of objects on the conveyor belt, or the thickness of rollers and cylinders, as well as save and evaluate the data on a PC or connect the device to a controller (SPS) for operation and reading. The possibilities for using the distance meter are numerous. We also offer the DLS-CH model, which integrates a heater, allowing its use in low-temperature environments. The distance meter is very easy to install with the help of M4 screws and is powered through the network (9 - 30 VDC for the DLS-C series and 9 - 24 V for the DLS-CH series). The standard version of this distance meter must always be connected to a PC. Measurement is also activated from the PC or on the monitor. Measurement values are provided in analog or digital form. If you wish to connect the distance meter to a controller (SPS), you do not need a PC for the operation of the device. For this, you must ensure that your controller (SPS) has an RS-232 or RS-422 interface.

Influence of the targets to be measured / other influences

- All opaque targets can be measured. Measurement results cannot be obtained for transparent targets

- Smooth objectives with good reflection provide better and faster measurement results than rough ones. Rough surfaces negatively affect the measurement time (0.3 - 4 s)

- If there is a high concentration of dust between the distance meter and the target, e.g., measuring

  cement silos, this will also have a negative influence on the measurement.

- Moving targets can be measured.

Measurement stability

The measurement accuracy of ± 3.0 or ± 1.5 ,5 mm comes from a 95% statistical distribution. The typical variance can be obtained from the diagram on the right.

Certain factors and specific materials and surfaces have a negative influence on the measurement result:

- Measurement in a high-temperature environment (> +50 °C)

- Measurement on a very polished surface (e.g., stainless steel cylinders with shiny polish)

Harmful effects of laser light

The DLS series distance meter belongs to laser class II. Class II laser devices have a visible laser with low output (<1 mW) so there is a possibility of eye damage.

Looking directly at the laser beam for a long period (>15 min) can cause eye damage. Never look at the laser beam with a telescope.

It should be noted that normally, when the eyes encounter bright light, they tend to close as a reflex action. This reflex action is what typically protects the eyes from damage from class 2 laser products.

Connection

With the RS-232 cable, a DLS-C sensor can be connected directly to the PC. A plug is used for the connection with the DLS-C sensor, achieving a tight connection (IP65). The connection to the PC is made with a 9-pin D-Sub plug. A two-wire cable makes it easy to connect a power supply for the sensor.

This cable makes it easy to connect a DLS-C sensor to an RS-422 interface. With this cable, a tight connection (IP65) is established with the DLS-C sensor.
