With the formaldehyde gas detector, you can measure formaldehyde concentrations and store the measurement values in its internal memory. You can use the formaldehyde gas detector as a handheld device. However, the formaldehyde gas detector has a thread on the handheld device and on the probe. The threads allow the equipment to be mounted on a tripod for fixed use. This way, you can perform prolonged measurements. When starting the formaldehyde gas detector, the device first performs an internal calibration. Once this process is completed, you can take the measurement. The formaldehyde gas detector, in addition to measuring formaldehyde (HCHO), also measures temperature (in °C and °F) and relative humidity. It is possible to switch measurement units between °C and °F even during measurement. The formaldehyde gas detector also has the HOLD and peak value functions. After taking a measurement with the formaldehyde gas detector, you can transfer the data to a computer via USB cable for further analysis.

General information about formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a colorless element with a pungent odor that is gaseous at room temperature. Misuse of formaldehyde can cause allergies and irritation of the skin, respiratory tract, or eyes. It is considered carcinogenic. When voluntary checks for harmful substances (such as Toxproof or Öko-Tex 100) are carried out in the textile sector (clothing), the limit value is set at 20 mg/kg (20 ppm). This is also the limit value for baby garments. For fitted garments, the value is 75 mg/kg, and for other garments, it is 300 mg/kg. The limit value in Germany is 1500 mg/kg (1500 ppm). Other fields where formaldehyde is found, besides textiles, include: wood, furniture, particle boards, and flooring.
