The Krebs viscometer operates fully automated. The Krebs viscometer measures in units of KU, g, and cp. The Krebs viscometer is mainly used in the manufacturing and control of paints, coatings, adhesives, and pasty samples. It maintains a constant speed of 200 rpm (revolutions per minute).

The Krebs viscometer has two operating modes: manual and automatic. In automatic mode, the spindle is automatically inserted into the sample. After a brief immersion time of the spindle, the viscometer will begin the measurement. The user can define the measurement time. To obtain usable results, the instrument should operate for at least 5 seconds. This is the minimum time that can be selected as the measurement time in automatic mode. The upper limit for measurement time is 99 seconds. In manual mode, the user must insert the spindle into the desired position, start, and finish the measurement manually. The Krebs viscometer with automatic operation mode complies with the following standards: ASTM D 562, ASTM D 1131, and ASTM D 856.
