The PCE-S 40 is a stethoscope that amplifies machine noises. A stethoscope allows for the detection of noises in bearings, pumps, etc. In the mechanical engineering sector, it is used for preventive maintenance. It aims to diagnose potential failures in machines before they occur. By listening to a machine with the stethoscope, it can amplify noises that should not occur during normal operation. These noises include knocks and rubbing, indicating that the machine is suffering damage.

The stethoscope consists of earphones, a tube, and a measuring rod. The stethoscope detects sounds through the measuring rod and transmits them to the earphone through the tube. The earphone has fittings that can be ordered additionally for replacement. These soft plastic fittings allow for a good fit in the ear and soundproofing, enabling good listening of sounds.
