The ultrasonic flowmeter is used for control measurements or to quickly detect the flow in a pipe, making it a portable and easy-to-install measurement system. The ultrasonic flowmeter operates based on the time-of-flight difference method. The measurement principle of the flowmeter is very simple. In a diagonal measurement in a tube, it takes less time to measure in the direction of the flow than against it. The higher the flow rate, the more time is needed to measure against the flow, and less time if measuring in the direction of it. The difference between the flow times in the direction of the flow or against it directly depends on the flow velocity. The flowmeter uses this effect to determine the flow velocity and flow rate. Electro-acoustic transducers receive and emit brief ultrasonic pulses through the medium flowing in the pipe. The transducers are positioned vertically offset on both sides of the tube to be measured. Non-destructive sensors are placed on the tube and are secured, for example, with a clamp. In a short time, the display indicates the flow velocity. The ultrasonic flowmeter can be used in metal, plastic, and rubber pipes.
